OUR APPROACH

THE BEST TRAINING IS THE TRAINING YOU NEED IN THE MOMENT.

No two people arrive at Total Balance with the same body, history, goals or experience. That's why we don't begin with a predetermined method. We begin with the person in front of us.

NO SINGLE METHOD HAS ALL THE ANSWERS.

Over more than twenty-five years, our work has been influenced by many disciplines and ways of understanding the body.Strength and conditioning. Movement and mobility. Biomechanics. Running mechanics. Pilates. Fascia. Martial arts. Traditional approaches to health and recovery. Each has taught us something. But experience has also taught us that no method—regardless of how effective it may be—is right for every person in every circumstance. We don't ask the person to fit the method.
We choose the approach according to the person.

EXPERIENCE CHANGES WHAT YOU SEE.

Breadth at Total Balance hasn't come from collecting techniques. It has come from going deeply into different disciplines, working with people over decades, teaching other professionals, questioning what we thought we knew, and continuing to learn from the bodies in front of us.Both of us have spent parts of our careers educating and teaching other coaches and movement professionals. But some of our most important lessons have come from the people we've worked with every day.The longer you work with bodies, the more you learn to pay attention.

DIFFERENT BACKGROUNDS MAKE US BETTER TOGETHER.

Paul and Christine came to movement from very different places.Paul's path began through martial arts and Traditional Chinese Medicine and expanded through strength and conditioning, biomechanics, running mechanics, mobility and human performance.Christine's began through dance and developed through Pilates, homeopathy, fascia, spinal health, movement and restorative work.Over decades of working together, those perspectives have continually challenged and influenced one another.Sometimes we see the same thing.Sometimes we see something completely different. Both matter. That's one of the advantages of Total Balance.

WHAT YOU NEED CAN CHANGE.

There are times when the body needs to get stronger. There are times when it needs more mobility.Sometimes the priority is restoring movement or helping the body recover.Sometimes it's building the capacity to perform at a very high level. And what someone needs at 35 may be different at 55—or different next Tuesday. That's why strength, mobility, conditioning, recovery and movement aren't competing philosophies at Total Balance. They're tools. The skill is understanding which tool matters now.

DIFFERENT PEOPLE. SAME QUESTION.

Over the years we've worked with people who simply want to move through daily life without thinking about their body all the time. We've worked with people rebuilding strength and confidence. We've worked with runners, golfers, endurance athletes, mountaineers and professional athletes. We've worked with people in their forties, fifties, sixties and beyond who want to remain capable for decades to come. The question remains remarkably similar:What does this person need now?

BUILT OVER DECADES.

BUILT OVER DECADES.Total Balance opened in Oakville in 2000.What we do today looks different from what we did then—as it should. We've learned. We've changed our minds. We've developed our own approaches. We've watched clients change across decades of their lives.Technology has changed how we work too, allowing relationships to continue in person, online, and often through a combination of both. The work continues to evolve because people do.

AFTER ALL THESE YEARS, THE QUESTION IS STILL SIMPLE.Not:What's the hardest workout? Not:What's the newest method? Not:What program does everyone else follow? But:WHAT DOES YOUR BODY NEED NOW?That's where we begin.
